No Black Friday!

Supermarket Asda says it will not take part in the shopping discount day known as Black Friday, which it helped to bring to the UK just two years ago.

The supermarket says "shopper fatigue" has set in "around flash sales on big-ticket, non-essential items at Christmas". The event marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the US. Black Friday is not universally popular with retailers but experts were divided over whether others would follow Asda.

Last year, police were called in to supermarkets as scuffles broke out among shoppers vying to get the best deal.
